Government Waste
Government waste and spending is at an all time high and it seems as if there is no end in sight.
The government has racked up such an outrageous debt that our children and grandchildren, in fact every man women and child in this country is on the hook to the federal government for about $40,000 each and that figure is rising by the minute. At the rate the government is spending money, in another ten to fifteen years our debt to gdp ratio will be approaching 84%. This is absolutely unsustainable and will bankrupt this country. Add to that the foreign trade deficit, the weakening U.S. dollar as a foreign reserve; the threat of Moody's downgrading our credit rating, the $1.7 trillion real estate bubble, and the future of this country looks very bleak indeed.
As of right now this congress and administration and the previous administrations have racked up $14 trillion in debt that we now owe China and Japan. We have $107 trillion in unfunded liabilities which includes social security, Medicare/Medicaid, and $409 billion just in unfunded government pensions. What is the solution? How do we prevent ourselves from becoming a banana republic that can't pay its bills? The answer is quite simple and for the life of me I can't understand why the politicians in Washington can't grasp the concept.
Stop spending our money! Quit growing the government!
Serious cuts must be made to save this Republic. As a congressman I vow to establish a second grace commission to review all agencies, programs and spending that the government is involved in and make all recommended cuts the commission finds. In 1982 Grace one found approximately 2,438 different areas where the federal government could cut spending and waste and had they all been carried out they would have saved the country approx. $10 trillion by 1990. I'd be willing to bet that a second grace commission would find double the amount of areas where we could cut waste and spending.
My goal as a congressman is to cut government spending by at least 30% or more. I would also like to streamline and reform the government procurement process. Its too cumbersome and is too susceptible to graft, corruption, extortion and bribery. Too many of our representatives in the beltway use the bidding process and the procurement processes to advance their own agenda and line the pockets of themselves and the people that helped them get in office, not to mention their friends and relatives.
I pledge to do everything in my power to stop this nonsense and expose any shady dealings that go on. For too long these politicians haven't had to answer to anyone. We have not held them accountable for their and its time they felt the heat.
By cutting spending by 30% and cutting all unnecessary and unconstitutional subsidies, programs, bureaus and agencies coupling this with a complete reform of the tax code with a flat tax, lowered corporate taxes and a reform of social security and Medicare/Medicaid we can get this great American experiment back on the road to prosperity.
All it will take is the leadership and will of men and women just like me...a regular, everyday working stiff who cares deeply about the direction our government is taking us.
